Tips on how to eat healthy when you are in a restaurant or dining out

 

One of the best ways we can watch and regulate what we eat is by actually preparing it ourselves. But how about when you have to eat at restaurants, parties or events? It is fine to let go once in a while, and not to be too hard on ourselves as we enjoy food with the company of family and friends—but if you still want to maintain your healthy eating habits, you can try these tips:

 

Make a request

There’s no harm in asking the server if they can make some adjustments to your order by taking out or substituting ingredients that are more fitting to your dietary needs.

Start with a soup or salad

Eating soup or salad first during lunch or dinner will help you eat about 12% less of the main course and also keep you full longer.

Classic water

Nothing beats water as the go-to drink for every meal. Drinking fruit juice may seem like a healthier alternative to soda. However, the fruit juices served in restaurants most likely have added ingredients that would add calories just as much as sodas or other caloric beverages. 

Cancel those carbs

Or at least lessen your intake of foods rich in carbohydrates like bread, rice, pasta, noodles and potatoes.

Clean plate (optional)

We have always been conditioned to not be wasteful of food by finishing everything on our plate. Instead of doing this old practice, try only eating 80% of your serving and take your leftovers to go which you can set aside for later eating.
